Husband and wife haven’t had the chance to sit down to many traditional family dinners. But in between two spells at the White House (Bill’s presidency and Hillary’s term as Secretary of State) and with the potential of a third term, the Clinton’s have still found time to lead a healthy lifestyle. We’ve collected some health tips from the Clintons to show that you don’t have to choose between success and your health.

HFR founder Samir Becic commented on the Clinton’s dedication to a healthy lifestyle: “In the past 12 months Secretary Clinton appears to be much more vibrant, energetic, and has a healthier aura about her. It is clear that she is regularly practicing physical fitness and healthy nutrition in order to cope with the stress of campaigning for president. We also voted Bill Clinton as one of the fittest living presidents in 2013. One of the criteria that included him on the list was his adaptation of a healthy lifestyle and abandonment of bad habits.”

Never Too Late to Change your Diet

Just about everyone knew about Bill Clinton’s fondness for Big Macs during his presidential days. His preference of fast food over more gourmet cuisine appealed to his populist and down-to-earth image, but his heart paid the price. Back in 2004 Clinton had to clear four clogged arteries in his heart after cholesterol and other factors backed them up. Since then he has had a change of heart, eating a light fast-food free vegan diet.

Stay Active on the Road

Many people find it hard to keep up an exercise routine while they are traveling. Then there is Hillary Clinton, who visited 112 different countries when she was Secretary of State. Now that she’s on the campaign trail she still makes sure to work out quite often. On the road she works 3-4 times a week, practices yoga, and does water aerobics.

Change What You Can, Accept What You Cannot

Hillary said that “You know, everybody has setbacks in their life, and everybody falls short of whatever goals they might set for themselves. That’s part of living and coming to terms with who you are as a person.”

Boost Your Metabolism With Hot Peppers

Hot peppers contain beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C, and capsaicin, all healthy nutrients that can aid with metabolism among other things. Hillary is a firm believer in the healing powers of hot peppers and snacks on them on the campaign trail. Research also suggests that peppers help with pain management.

Stay Healthy For Your Loved Ones

Bill Clinton’s dedication to exercise and healthy eating isn’t just for himself. Bill Clinton said “you have a responsibility to try to be as healthy as possible” if you have a family. He adds that “you have to make a conscious decision to change for your own well-being, and that of your family and your country.”

Keep Track Of Your Progress

Bill realizes that many Americans have trouble sticking to a diet. Bill stays dedicated to his healthy eating choices by monitoring his progress: “would keep a record of everything I ate every day — what, when and how much. That’s easy for everybody to do. Just go write it down. And then I’d start looking at it and say, what am I going to give up and what am I going to substitute?”

Stay Strong And Flexible With Yoga

Investigators found a lot of information pertaining to Hillary’s yoga routines when they searched through her private emails. Hillary practices Hatha yoga, which is the most common form. The exercise is an excellent way for Hillary to stay flexible and strong as she ages and copes with the responsibilities of campaigning for president.

Don’t Dwell On The Past

Hillary has some sage advice on how to approach life. She says “Every moment wasted looking back, keeps us from moving forward…In this world and the world of tomorrow, we must go forward together or not at all.”

Were Are In This Together

At HFR we believe that an unhealthy America affects everyone. Obesity and poor health have terrible consequences on the whole country, from the economy to politics. The Clinton’s understand that private health is a public concern, as demonstrated by Bill’s approach to the AIDS epidemic. He said: “We live in a completely interdependent world, which simply means we can not escape each other. How we respond to AIDS depends, in part, on whether we understand this interdependence. It is not someone else’s problem. This is everybody’s problem.”

Use Meditation To Get Through Life’s Challenges

In order to find balance in her hectic life, Hillary Clinton relies on meditation and other practices to calm her down. She learned her favorite meditative trick from her mom: visualize a bubble in the middle of a carpenter’s level and try to keep it there. She attributes her meditation to helping her through the 11 hour long trial on Benghazi.
