Building off of momentum of HFR’s Top 13 Fittest Heads of State list, Samir Becic is announcing a mandatory fitness test for the US president. HFR’s list made news in more than 60 countries around the world, which confirms the growing interest within the international community to see leaders live a healthy lifestyle. Our research also indicates the fittest world leaders hail from countries that are making tremendous economic growth and political expansions.

Samir Becic, HarperCollins author/ ReSYNC Your Life /, nationally recognized fitness professional and the first to rank presidential candidates on their physical fitness and nutrition, has proposed guidelines for a mandatory fitness test that he believes should be required for the US president. Becic recently issued an open letter to the presidential candidates asking them to offer solutions to the obesity epidemic.

Becic wrote: “I know what it takes to be an effective leader. In my 18 year career, I trained with powerful people who are responsible for thousands of employees in large organizations. And whether they were CEOs from Fortune 500 companies, religious or political leaders, they led more effectively when they were physically fit rather than when they were not. This is not just my opinion. The leaders I trained with told me themselves that they could not operate at 100% efficiency unless they were leading a healthy lifestyle.”

Becic believes that this lesson in leadership and management applies to the US president as well. To assure the US president can lead with optimal effectiveness and fulfill the onerous obligations of the job, they should take a mandatory physical fitness test before assuming office. Becic says the physical fitness test would not be as rigorous as the ones our special forces take. It would be simple and just a check to assure that the US President is in basic shape. If the president has a special need or physical disability, a modified version can be administered.

The proposed test would have the president walk and jog 3 miles in under 30 minutes, or 3 miles in under 45 minutes, depending on their age. It also requires 4 sets of 10 pushups, 4 sets of 20 crunches, 4 sets of 15 squats and to complete a sit and reach flexibility test. Samir and his team were the first to rank heads of state based on fitness and personal health for 3 years in a row, to the acclaim of the media.
