Fitness and health has no sexual orientation, but highlighting good role models in a community to motivate others is one of our mottos. All the men on this list are openly gay celebrities in Hollywood, and without a doubt, deserve to be on this list- and would deserve to be on any fittest list.

We have been making these lists of the Top 10 Fittest for several years now and continue our legacy with this new list. The HFR institute first compiled a list of the most popular 50 iconic (and living) gay icons and did research on all of them. We narrowed down the list to 35, 25, and finally to the fittest 10. We used interviews and social media accounts to find information, and took into account age, publicly known health issues, and lifestyle.

Here are the Top 10 from Health Fitness Revolution and author of the book ReSYNC Your Life Samir Becic:

Matt Bomer, 39

  • Says his diet is 80% of how he maintains his body.
  • He’s studied nutrition for over 10 years. He started educating himself in his 20s  “When I was 27, I felt old. I didn’t feel right,” he said during an interview. “I didn’t feel healthy. I just wasn’t taking care of my body, and I had a body that wanted me to take care of it.”
  • He practices transcendental meditation, which has been proven to help combat food cravings.
  • Slows down his workout to get a better burn in his muscles
  • Works out 6 days a week.
  • In preparation for the movie Magic Mike (where he was shirtless for the majority of it), said his co-stars pushed him to workout 7 days a week.

Andy Cohen, 48

  • Scuba dives.
  • Enjoys fly-fishing.
  • Rides horses- can even be seen herding cattle in Montana on his Instagram page.
  • Has said his rescue dog Wacha, has made him more of a morning person, and he regularly walks him.
  • Works out daily with a trainer for an hour.
  • Although he is up late for his live late night talk show, he always makes time in the morning to workout, something he enjoys.
  • Cohen eats a healthy diet and is big on healthy eating. He often eats toast and tea for breakfast, quinoa for lunch, and religiously eats the same meal every night of grilled chicken fajita meat when working

Anderson Cooper, 49

  • Eats the same thing for months at a time.
  • Works out with a trainer.
  • Says he’s obsessive about working out.
  • Runs.
  • Says it hard to work out in some of the remote countries he travels to, so he works out as much as he can while in New York.
  • Anderson is not a foodie and doesn’t care about food, which helps keep him trim.
  • Since his father has heart disease, he has always tried to eat healthy.
  • Doesn’t smoke.
  • Doesn’t drink much alcohol. Only has an occasional glass of wine.

Sean Hayes, 46

  • Frequently posts workout pictures on his social media.
  • Posted a particularly well-liked video on Twitter of him doing fast frog jumps on a mini-trampoline as part of his fun workout.
  • Enjoys dancing.

Colton Haynes, 28

  • Used to do a lot of yoga but began losing weight.
  • Started lifting heavy weights.
  • To train for his role in the movie San Andreas, he had to learn to rappel and rock climb. He said he threw up twice during training.
  • Posts workout pictures on social media.

Neil Patrick Harris, 43

  • Took cirque classes in L.A., where he did circus training, including body weight exercises, headstands, suspension work, aerial trapeze, etc.
  • Used to eat between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. but then starting eating when his daughters ate at 5-6 p.m. and noticed he was losing weight.
  • His husband cooks healthy meals.
  • Eats small, frequent meals.
  • Does yoga and pilates.
  • Does cardio.
  • Strength training.

  • Once weighed 250 lbs in high school, and said he suffered from self-esteem and body image issues.
  • Consistently works out, and his trainer said there have been very few lapses in their training.
  • Eats a predominantly plant based diet.
  • Kicks off his workouts with cardio and tries to maintain a high heart rate throughout the workout.
  • Loves ab and oblique exercises. Incorporates the BOSU ball into his core training.

Jim Parsons, 43

  • Says he’s become a bit of a fitness freak.
  • Is a regular at his local spin studio.
  • Can perform 8 reps of the bench press with 50 lb dummbells.
  • Posted a video on his instagram of him pushing a 725 lb weighted sled.
  • His trainer, Ben Bruno, posted a video of him on instagram of Jim doing 400 pound one-arm sled rows and called it “very,very impressive”
  • “I don’t really do much very good in the gym,” Parsons said on the Dan Patrick Show. “But for some reason I have this workman like aspect of me, I suppose, that can push heavy weight. That’s not that heavy for everybody, but for me, that’s very heavy.

Sam Smith, 24

  • Worked with same nutritionist as Boy George, and shed 14 pounds in two weeks by switching his diet to one of whole foods and cutting out sugar.
  • Sam Smith credited Amelia Freer for his slimdown in March by posting a picture of himself holding her book on Instagram. He said: “Three weeks ago I met a woman who has completely changed my life. Amelia Freer has helped me lose over a stone in 2 weeks and has completely transformed my relationship with food. It’s not even about weight loss it’s about feeling happy in yourself. Love you Amelia & thank you for making me feel so happy inside and out.”
  • Frequently posts pictures of him at the gym.
  • Cut out sugar, gluten, and processed food.
  • Sam previously said that he loved food more than music and made terrible music when he lost weight in the past. This time, he’s done it a healthy way and can still eat- but is conscious of keeping it clean.
  • On tour, works out with his team and crew, keeping everyone accountable and healthy.

Zachary Quinto, 39

  • Enjoys jogging outdoors.
  • Loves hiking the Hollywood hills with his dog, and even has a favorite secret spot.
  • Has a personal trainer.
  • Enjoys yoga classes.
  • “There was a group of us who did sort of a Star Trek boot camp in preparation for some of the physical scenes we would be doing. That changed my routine because it gave me more structure than my own physical workout regimen,” Zachary said.
