HOUSTON, NOVEMBER 22, 2017/ Press Release// —Samir Becic, Harper Collins author of the book ReSYNC Your Life, has a new fitness challenge up his sleeve to create even more awareness about the obesity epidemic happening in America. It is no secret that America has been suffering from an obesity crisis for decades. Right now, 1 in 3 Americans is obese, and 360,000 deaths annually are due to complications related to obesity. The extra weight that a third of Americans carry impairs mobility and increases fatigue, making life harder for even the simplest daily activities. This public health crisis needs attention, with more resources dedicated to nutrition education and physical fitness. That’s why Samir Becic is walking several miles in the shoes of the obese…

He is going to speed walk 4 miles with a 200 lbs weighted vest on, making his total weight mimic a living body of over 500 lbs. 200 lbs of weighted vest is multiplied by a factor of 1.6 which equals 320 lbs. Since Samir weighs 200 lbs, combined with the weighted vest will equal a total amount of 520 lbs.

200 x 1.6 + 200 = 520

Last year, when he first began his extreme weighted vest stunt, he said he would never do it again, after completing 3 miles in excruciating pain. Last time he did the challenge, his fingers started to tingle from lack of circulation and body parts started to fail. His body didn’t shut down all at once. First, he lost feeling in his upper back. Then his lower back started to go, followed by his knees and shoulders. Weak and delirious, his legs gave out causing him to collapse on the dirt road. He mustered his strength and pulled himself back up, only to find his head in a cloud of fog and pain.

The final thing to give out was his heart. Sharp tingling sensations and irregular heartbeat tormented him and caused him to fall once more. When he told his teammates they panicked, begging him to quit, to get picked up by the car or to even seek medical attention. In the end, however, he completed the full 3-mile loop!

The challenge is dangerous, but Samir isn’t going to back down! Instead, he’s ramping it up this year with an extra mile, making it even more extreme.

Stay tuned for more details on Samir’s challenge!
