Sports Drinks

Soft drinks have been eradicated from the majority of schools, but there are still some sugary drinks, like sports drinks, that are still available to children. A study published in the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine showed that a significant number of students who bought soda in high school fell from 54% in 2006 to 25% in 2011. This is a significant reduction in the percentage of students who had access to soda. But there is still the problem that there are other sugary fruit drinks still available.

Even though sugary drinks like sport drinks or fruit juice are somewhat better for you, they still can contribute to the growing epidemic of obesity in America. According to the study, middle school students’ consumption of sugared drinks fell from 27% to 13%.

Sugary drinks in school are still a problem and should be regulated better, but sports drinks and other fruit drinks should be regulated in schools as well. This will help the growing problem of obesity.
