Westeros is a land where only the strong survive, but even then you’re facing an uphill battle. There are plenty of famous fighters, but we’ve assembled the top 10 fittest Game of  Thrones characters to determine who have kept themselves in shape to stay alive:

Oberyn Martell

Also known as the Red Viper, Prince Oberyn Martell hails from the dusty mesas of Dorne, the southernmost region of Westeros. Famous for his fiery temper and fighting prowess, The Red Viper has kicked butt and taken names all over Westeros. Thanks to his fighting style he is acrobatic enough to dodge sword and strong enough to down a knight in a full suit of armor.

Brienne of Tarth

Brienne is a giant of a woman, with a sense of duty as big as her muscles. She defied expectations of what a noble lady should be and instead found her true calling: sword fighting. Her strength and speed helped her best Loras Tyrell, one the best knights in the 7 Kingdoms, in a duel. She keeps up her skills by doing daily strength training and has traveled by foot or horse up to 30 miles a day on her various quests.

“The Hound” is a name that sends shivers down the spine of even the most grizzled Westeros soldier. Sandor Clegane casts an imposing figure, though not as tall and hulking as his brother. When it comes to sheer strength, Sandor Clegane has few rivals.

Love him or hate him, the golden boy of House Lannister is one of the fittest men in Westeros. Perhaps the greatest fighter of his generation, Jaime Lannister has trained in the art of combat since he was a young boy, and met the onerous requirements to be a member of the King’s Guard. He also has travelled all over Westeros and is no stranger to surviving away from the comforts of his cushy life.

There is no “live him or hate him” about Gregor Clegane, AKA “the Mountain That Rides.” There is just hate. He is on the short list for the evilest villains in all of Westeros, using his enormous strength and size to terrorize the enemies of House Lannister. His fitness feats include: chopping his horse’s head off in one swing of the sword and ripping a man’s head off with his bear hands.

Life north of the wall is the definition of “survival of the fittest.” As a wildling spear-wife, Ygritte has developed an endurance to the harsh elements, going for long hikes in blizzards and training her muscles to fire a bow. That’s how she manages to get the jump on Jon Snow in Season 2 and how she can stay alive in such a violent and competitive environment.

In terms of sheer strength and size, Khal Drogo is unmatched in the Game of Thrones universe. The Dothraki leader is a towering man with ambitions that tower over his imposing physical stature. He leads the nomadic life of a horse warlord, meaning his fitness is challenged everyday both in battle and in the will to survive.

The heir to the Highgarden is not one of the biggest fighters in Westeros, but he is among the most formidable. He trained at sword fighting, jousting, and horseback riding from the time he was a small child, and grew up to be one of the most agile and technically skilled fighters in the land. That’s why he was one of the few to ever unseat Jaime Lannister in a joust, and it’s why he led both Joffrey and Renly Baratheon’s King’s Guard.

When you live at the top of the world you need to be fit to survive, and Tormund is one of the fittest, strongest and most deadly Wildlings in Westeros. He is a raider and commander with ambitions of bringing down the Wall and settling his people in the south. He manages to scale the imposing surface with two pickaxes and some amazing upper body strength, and would undoubtedly go toe-to-toe with any Southern fighter.
