The Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in Houston hosted an unforgettable evening on October 28, 2025, in honor of the 102nd Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. The celebration, led by Consul General Mr. Ahmet Akıntı and Mrs. Örge Yalazı Akıntı was a gathering that reflected Türkiye’s deep-rooted history, rich culture, and growing friendship with the United States.

The reception was nothing short of extraordinary. Diplomats, political leaders, business figures, community representatives, and celebrities filled the grand venue, coming together to celebrate one of the most significant dates in Türkiye’s modern history. The guest list included distinguished members of the international community such as Consul General of Ukraine Vitalii Tarasiuk, Consul General of Germany Kai Henning, Honorary Consul of Austria Gerald Seidl, Consul General Marty McVey, and World Affiars Council Sandija Bayot among many others.

A highlight of the evening came when Mayor John Whitmire officially proclaimed October 28 as “Türkiye Day” in Houston, recognizing the strong ties between the city and the Turkish community. The proclamation was presented to Consul General Ahmet Akıntı by Gigi Lee, Chief of International Affairs at the Mayor’s Office of Trade and International Affairs (MOTIA). The moment was met with warm applause, symbolizing Houston’s appreciation for Türkiye’s contributions to the city’s multicultural fabric and international relations.

Guests were treated to an elegant program featuring classical music performances, fine Turkish cuisine, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that reflected the hospitality for which Türkiye is known. From the moment attendees entered, they were immersed in a celebration that combined tradition with modern sophistication. Every detail—from the décor and music to the cuisine—showcased Türkiye’s vibrant culture and the Consulate’s commitment to excellence.

Among the attendees was Samir Becic, Houston’s Fitness Czar and a well-known community leader, who praised the event, saying:

“I’m invited to attend hundreds of events every year, but this event was exceptional and one of a kind. Thank you to Consul General Ahmet Akıntı and Mrs. Örge Yalazı Akıntı for being excellent hosts and representing their country with dignity, honor and elegance.”
Becic’s remarks echoed the sentiments of many guests, who were impressed not only by the grandeur of the celebration but also by the warmth and sincerity that defined the evening.

As Türkiye marks its 102nd year since its founding by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1923, this event served as a reminder of the nation’s resilience, progress, and enduring friendship with the United States. Under Consul General Akıntı’s leadership, the Turkish Consulate in Houston continues to strengthen cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties throughout Texas and the southern United States.

The 102nd Republic Day reception was more than a commemoration—it was a celebration of unity, mutual respect, and shared vision for the future. With music, conversation, and laughter filling the air, guests departed inspired and uplifted, carrying with them the spirit of Türkiye and the promise of even stronger relations between Houston and the Turkish community in the years to come.
