Samir continued his campaign to raise awareness about obesity with a grueling 3 mile walk in a 120lb vest. He has been carrying around progressively heavier weight over the course of the last month to recreate the added duress of morbid obesity. The added weight brought his total weight up to 328lbs and mimicked a living weight of over 450lbs.

Right now more than 34% of Americans are obese. More than 6% are extremely obese, which means they carry more than 100lbs of extra weight with them. Doctors estimate this shortens the lifespan by as much as 6 1/2 years by causing a variety of illnesses.

Samir stressed that the cheapest and most effective way to prevent illness is through a healthy lifestyle: “We need to motivate our politicians to start caring more about physical fitness and healthy nutrition. They need to talk more about preventative medicine.” Exercise and diet can save lives and health care costs. As such, Samir believes that politicians owe it to America to address the issue.

On the walk, Samir explained his mission to passersby and thousands of Facebook viewers. He stressed that he was using extreme fitness to garner attention to this important issue, but that just walking and being active is a huge step for your health. Facebook fans asked him questions about fitness, which Samir answered while walking the 3 miles.

He hoped to motivate people to get exercise even if they are living with obesity. “Please join me on a small walk for a couple hundred meters or yards. Drink some water. Eat an apple. Start your day with a healthy activity!”
