Mayor Turner attended Play Ball Summer Day with “Fitness Czar” Samir Becic on Saturday, May 18th. The championship was held by the Parks and Recreation Department of Houston directed by Steven Wright. The program’s goal is to allow kids of all age groups to play baseball in a safe and fun environment.

The Play Ball Summer Day kicked off with an introduction made by the department and a speech given by Mayor Turner. He had a great time with the kids, encouraging them and offering support before their big games.

After the speech, the kids split into teams and the games began. The Mayor also did an interview with news reporter Chauncy Glover from ABC13.

Mayor Turner was proclaimed one of the Top 10 Fittest Mayors in America 2019. After his speech, he did a short workout routine composed of push-ups and squats. He clearly demonstrated that he deserves his spot on the list! His enthusiasm for making Houston one of the fittest cities in America is contagious. Mayor Turner has also been rallying the business community to support Houston’s park infrastructure.

Through an initiative dubbed “50-for-50,” he is asking the Greater Houston Partnership, the Houston Parks Board, and the Parks Department to bring together 50 companies to form a city-wide coalition for neighborhood parks, primarily in communities that have been underserved. “You can’t create complete communities unless you create green space,” Turner said at the Annual State of the City Address. “All Houstonians should have access to great parks and this will touch every district in the city.”
